India Boosting Swimming Future With Selection Of Athletes For National Swimming Academy
NEW DELHI, India, October 3. ON the heels of a surprise bronze medal by Sandeep Sejwal in the men’s 50 breaststroke at this month’s Asian Games, India is making a push to collect more international medals by picking athletes for its new National Swimming Academy.
According to an article in The Times of India, swimmers between the ages of 8 and 17 will be picked to attend the academy. The first round will take place Tuesday in various cities across the country and select athletes for four age groups: 8-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-17.
Those who move from the first round will be a part of a second trial session a week later. A national level selection will take place from October 27 to 30 to assess the athletes’ swimming abilities before conducting a fitness evaluation at the end of October.
Sejwal’s medal and Virdhawal Khade’s bronze in the 50 fly at the 2010 Asian Games are the only two medals India has won in international competition since the 1980s. Sejwal is the country’s top swimmer with a ninth-place finish in the 50 breast at this year’s Commonwealth Games.
what about people around the age group 20-25 who wish to be a part of the National Swimming Academy ?
