In-State Sprinter Katie Simpson Gives Duquesne University First Class of 2026 Verbal
NEW COMMIT: Duquesne University has received their first verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from in-state standout Katie Simpson of West Chester, Pa.
She told Swimming World:
“I am so excited to give my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Duquesne University! Thank you to all my friends, family, and coaches who have helped me get to where I am today. Go Dukes!”
Simpson, who does her club swimming with the West Chester Area YMCA, last competed at the 18&U Winter Championships in Carlisle and earned a pair of silver medals at the PA East District YMCA Championships back in March. She raced the 50/100 free at YMCA SCY Nationals in April 2019 before going on to record two best times at YMCA LCM Nationals that summer.
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.50
- 100 free – 51.76
- 50 back – 27.77
- 100 back – 57.30
- 200 back – 2:08.79
Currently a junior at Henderson High School, Simpson placed sixth in the 50 free and 21st in the 100 free as a sophomore at the Pennsylvania 3A State Championships. She raced to fifth and tenth, respectively, in those events at the PIAA District 01 meet as well.
Simpson will add valuable depth both individually and on relays when she arrives on campus as a member of the Dukes’ Class of 2026. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 50 free at the 2020 Atlantic 10 Championships where Duquesne finished third overall in the team standings under head coach David Sheets.
