Grant Thompson has given his verbal commitment to the University of Utah. The Austin, Texas resident swims for Coach Brendan Hansen at Austin Swim Club. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American had a very successful summer. At Futures (Austin) he finished third in the 400 IM and then went on to earn a second swim in the event at Junior Nationals. Thompson is a very versatile swimmer with that 400 IM leading his event lineup.
His best yards times are:
- 200 IM 1:54.45
- 400 IM 3:58.99
- 500 Free 4:35.19
- 1000 Free 9:43.66
- 1650 Free 15:57.05
- 200 Fly 1:55.35
Thompson shared,
“I chose University of Utah because of coach Joe Dykstra and his staff’s vision for the program, an improving team, and an awesome culture that I want to be a part of! All of this, along with the great academics at Utah, make me really excited for the next four years. Go Utes!”
At the 2016 Pac 12 Championships, Thompson would have been a 400 IM C finalist. Utah’s top finisher in the event was senior Kristian Kron (3:45.77). Thompson is only just outside 1650 scoring as it took a 15:55.34 to register points at last year’s meet. Jay Bolinger and Brandon Shreeve will be distance swimming seniors when Thompson arrives on campus next fall.
