Ilya Shymanovich Lowers Own 200Br Record At Belarusian Short-Course Championships
Ilya Shymanovich lowered his national 200m breaststroke record to 2:02.77 on the first day of the Belarusian Short-Course Championships in Brest.
Shymanovich had set a previous record of 2:02.86 while representing Energy Standard at the International Swimming League final in November.
It was during the ISL that the Belarus swimmer – the second-fastest man in history over 100m in a long-course pool – was accused by James Guy and Mel Marshall – Adam Peaty’s coach – of using illegal dolphin kicks throughout his races.
The double silver medallist at the 2018 World Short-Course Championships split 27.36/31.69/32.07/31.65 to cut 0.09 from that mark.
He then returned to the pool for the 4x50m men’s medley relay where he split a scorching 25.04 on the breaststroke leg as the Minsk quartet won in 1:34.09.
Alina Zmushka sliced more than four seconds off her national record in the women’s 200br.
Zmushka lowered her 2019 record of 2:25.44 to 2:23.44 in the heats before going 2:21.40 in the final for victory by more than seven seconds.
Anastasiya Shkurdai enjoyed double gold in the 50 back and 100 free.
The 17-year-old twice lowered her 50 back PB, going 26.47 in the final after a heats effort of 26.66.
