Ilya Shymanovich Goes 25.39 For Third-Fastest 50 Breaststroke In Short-Course History

The world short-course silver medallist entered the meet with a PB of 25.48, a time he set in Energy Standard colours at the ISL final in November.

He cut a 0.09 slice from that in prelims for 25.39 and Shymanovich now stands behind only world record-holder Cameron van der Burgh (25.25) and Emre Sakci, whose time of 25.29 during the ISL is the European mark.

Shymanovich then went 25.41 in the final to go alongside Adam Peaty and Van der Burgh for the joint fourth-fastest all time.

The 26-year-old is enjoying a fine competition, his scorching two-length performances following on from his 200br national record of 2:02.77 and 50br split of 25.04 in the 4x50m medley relay on Thursday.

Anastasiya Shkurdai followed up her 50 back and 100 free golden double from Thursday by twice lowering the Belarusian 200 back record.

The 17-year-old went 2:05.99 in the heats to take 2.41secs off the record set at the 2017 European Short-Course Championships.

She then returned for the finals where she lowered it to 2:04.80.

A further three national records fell on day two.

Yauhen Tsurkin lowered the men’s 50 free mark to 21.49 while Ruclan Skamaaroshka set a new mark of 1:45.17 in the 200fr.

Alina Zmushka followed up her 200br record from Thursday with a new mark in the 50m breaststroke of 29.65.
