Illinois Women Take Down Kansas in First Home Dual Meet

The Illinois Fighting Illini women’s swim and dive team opened the 2024-25 dual-meet season with a dominant win over Kansas Thursday evening in Champaign, earning a 191-109 victory as freshman Chloe Diner was dominant in her first meet at ARC Pool.

Diner was part of an Illinois squad that finished first in the 200 medley relay, joining Sophia PaduanoSydney Stoll and Isabella Wilhem in a 1:43.37 victory. Diner then took second in the 200 freestyle (1:52.10) before winning the 500 free (5:02.26) and 200 IM (2:03.08) while Stoll captured first place in the 100 butterfly in 55.89.

Illinois’ first win came courtesy of Liv Dorshorst in the 1000 free (10:22.09), and the breaststroke events went to Kayla Duran (1:03.12) and Sara Jass (2:19.03). Alexis Wendell topped the 200 butterfly (2:08.16), followed by Laurel Bludgen taking first in the 100 free (52.54) and Karlina Nikolaeva topping the 200 backstroke (2:03.68).

The team of Stoll, Paduano, Bludgen and Wilhelm claimed first in the 400 free relay in 3:29.78.

The Jayhawks, meanwhile, picked up wins from Eleni Kotzamanis in the 200 free (1:50.90) and Ellie Howe in the 100 back (56.47) before Carolina Blake took first in the 50 free in 23.52. Shiyun Lai was dominant in diving, winning 3-meter (327.83) and 1-meter (302.93).
