NEW COMMIT: The University of Illinois has received a verbal commitment for the fall of 2024 from Junior National qualifier Kennedy Rainwater of Brookfield, Wisconsin.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at the University of Illinois. I couldn’t be more grateful for my family, friends, and coaches who have helped and supported me through this process. Go Illini!!”

A distance freestyler, Rainwater trains year-round with Elmbrook Swim Club and earned 100% best times at NCSA Championships in the spring, finishing 19th in the 1000 free. She placed fifth in the 400 IM at Wisconsin Seniors in February

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:53.07
  • 500 free – 4:56.52
  • 1000 free – 10:07.76
  • 1650 free – 17:07.31

A rising senior at Brookfield Central High School, Rainwater took fourth in the 500 free and ninth in the 200 free at the 2022 Wisconsin DI State Championships. She placed fifth and 11th, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

Rainwater’s best time in the mile is already at Big Ten-scoring range, as she would’ve finished 23rd at last season’s championship meet.
