Illinois Picks Up Verbal Commitment from California Sprinter Lily Olson
NEW COMMIT: Fullerton, Calif. native Lily Olson has announced her verbal intention to continue her academic and swimming career at the University of Illinois beginning in the fall of 2020.
Olson does her club swimming with Irvine Novaquatics and most recently competed in three events at Mount Hood Futures this past summer after earning a pair of best times at the Speedo Grant Challenge in May. She placed 14th in the 50 free at the Speedo Champions Series in December and raced four events at Carlsbad Sectionals in March. Also competing for Mater Dei High School, Olson finished eighth in the 50 free and 10th in the 100 free as a junior at the CIF Southern DI Section Championships.
She told Swimming World:
“I am very excited to announce my commitment to swim and study at the University of Illinois! I wouldn’t be where I am today without the constant love and support of all those around me and can’t wait to join such an amazing team at a great school. Also very happy to be returning to my birth state! GO ILLINI”
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.95
- 100 free – 52.00
- 100 fly – 58.43
- 200 fly – 2:04.84
- 200 IM – 2:10.59
When she arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2024, Olson will be a valuable asset both individually and on relays. She will add her talents to a strong sprint freestyle group that’ll include Emma Curtis, Abby Cabush, and Isabelle Guerra.
