When the United States Olympic Trials get underway on June 15, it will mark the first time the event is held in a football stadium. Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts, will serve as the competition’s host for nine days, and will be the launching pad for athletes on the road to the Olympic Games in Paris. The meet will conclude on June 23.
Following a transformation from a football complex, Lucas Oil Stadium will seat up to 30,000 spectators per session. The past four editions of Trials, which were held in Omaha, Nebraska, welcomed approximately 16,000 fans per session. This year marks the first time Trials will be held in Indianapolis since 2000, when the meet was held at the revered IU Natatorium.
Here is a look at how the stadium transitioned over the past few weeks to become a venue featuring many of the top swimmers in the world.
