Hoosiers Score 2021 Verbal Commitments from Nichita Bortnicov and Aidan Reagan
NEW COMMITS: Chisinau, Moldova native Nichita Bortnicov and Aidan Reagan of Tucson, Arizona have both pledged their verbal commitments to Indiana University as part of the Hoosiers’ class of 2025.
Both swimmers will join Rafael Miroslaw, Jackson Carlile, Luke Barr, Sean Swift, Josh Matheny, Lucas Piunti, and Mason Carlton in Bloomington in the fall of 2021.
NICHITA BORTNICOV
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I chose this University because there are very impressive conditions for swimming and i really like it so much”
Competing internationally for the Moldovan Swimming Federation, Bortnicov most recently competed in five events at the LEN European Short Course Championships in December. He raced at the LEN Junior Championships last summer and raced the 200m fly and 400m IM at the 14th FINA World Championships in December 2018.
His best times include (LCM/SCY conversions):
- 50m fly – 26.66/23.32
- 100m fly – 58.10/51.01
- 200 SC fly – 2:01.30/1:48.89
- 200m IM – 2:09.88/1:52.60
- 400m IM – 4:45.78/4:07.19
AIDAN REAGAN
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Indiana University. I would like to thank all of my coaches, teammates, and family that have pushed me to this point. I can’t wait to be a member of such an amazing program, GO HOOSIERS!?⚪️”
A talented freestyler who gets faster as the distance gets longer, Reagan does his club swimming with Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics and owns four U.S. Open standards with the Olympic Trials cut in the 1500m free. He raced six events at the Toyota U.S. Open in December and earned bronze in the mile at NCSAs in 2019. Last summer, he earned four best times and placed fifth in the mile at Junior Nationals.

- 200 free – 1:40.27/1:53.93
- 500 free – 4:26.65/4:01.06
- 1000 free – 9:19.04/8:16.05
- 1650 free – 15:22.92/15:35.35 **Olympic Trials cut**
Also competing for Salpointe Catholic High School, Reagan is a four-time Arizona DII State Championship finalist. He won the 200 free and was the 500 free runner-up as a junior while collecting silver in both of those events during his sophomore season.
