NEW COMMIT: Winter Juniors qualifier Cullen Cochlan of Hinsdale, Ill., has selected the University of Pittsburgh for his college career and will suit up for the Panthers in the fall of 2020.

Cochlan swims year-round with Hinsdale Swim Club for coach Scott Erdman and raced three events at Minneapolis Sectionals this past summer. Last short course season, he finaled in three events at Illinois Seniors before going on to earn a pair of best times at NCSAs. Also competing for Hinsdale Central High School, Cochlan has competed at the Illinois State Championships each of the past three seasons.

He told Swimming World:

“I chose Pitt because of the great academics they have to offer along with the urban feel of the campus and extremely knowledgeable and developmental coaching staff. Huge thanks to the coaches, teammates, and family that have allowed me to be in this position. Hail to Pitt!!”

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.85
  • 100 free – 46.17
  • 200 free – 1:42.01
  • 100 fly – 50.33
  • 200 IM – 1:55.91

Cochlan will add valuable depth to Pitt’s lineup when he arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2024 both individually and on relays. Although he’s not in scoring range just yet at the ACC Championships, he has consistently made improvements each season.
