Harvard-Yale-Princeton Women’s Meet Sees Bulldogs Emerge Victorious
The women’s annual tri-meet between Harvard, Yale and Princeton took place Friday evening and Saturday afternoon in New Haven, with the men’s meet to follow Saturday evening and Sunday (also at Yale). The Yale Bulldogs were the winners at this year’s event, defeating Princeton 182-118 and besting Harvard by a 211-89 margin. The Princeton women defeated Harvard 202-98.
Three Yale swimmers captured wins in multiple events during the two-day meet. Ava Franks was the winner in the 100 breast (1:01.47) and 200 breast (2:12.56), while teammate Alexandra Massey won the 200 fly (1:57.51) and 200 back (1:57.32). Izzy Henig blasted a pair of impressive performances in the sprint freestyle events, posting a 22.09 in the 50 free and a 48.37 in the 100 free.
Additionally for Yale, Lindsay Wagner won the 100 back in 53.58, and the team of Wagner, Franks, Massey and Henig won the 200 medley relay in 1:38.42. To conclude the meet, Henig, Ophelia Pilkinton, Wagner and Marlise Moesch took first place in the 400 free relay in 3:17.61.
A pair of Princeton swimmers were also doubly victorious over the course of the weekend. Ellie Marquardt was the star performer in the distance events as she won the 1000 free (9:56.17) and the 500 free (4:49.74), and she also put up a 16:34.66 as an exhibition swimmer in the 1650 free (where she was the only swimmer in the event). Teammate Nikki Venema won the 200 free (1:47.19) and 100 fly (53.62), and Jess Yeager captured first place in the 200 IM (2:00.86).
Harvard captured two wins in diving behind Esther Lawrence on 3-meter (330.65) and Amy Wotovich on 1-meter (295.50).
