Harvard Secures First 2025 Verbal From Distance Specialist William Mulgrew

NEW COMMIT: Harvard University has kicked off its Class of 2025 recruiting with a bang, receiving a verbal commitment* from Olympic Trials qualifier William Mulgrew of Walpole, Massachusetts.

A distance freestyler, Mulgrew currently owns the second fastest mile time in his class.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process to continue my academic and athletic career at Harvard University! I would like to thank Coach Kevin and Coach Dan for giving me this opportunity. I would also like to thank God, my family, friends, teammates and my Coach Susan. Go Crimson!”

Mulgrew, who does his club swimming with Shawmut Aquatic Club, most recently swept the 500/1000/1650 at New England Seniors. That was a week after finishing fourth in the mile and 11th in the 500 free at Juniors East.

This past summer, he raced to fourth in the 1500m free and fifth in the 800m free at Junior Nationals. He placed 23rd in the mile at Phillips 66 Nationals and earned three silver medals at New England Long Course Seniors.

His best times include:

  • 1650 free – 14:48.26
  • 1000 free – 8:58.95
  • 500 free – 4:22.24
  • 400 IM – 3:56.20
  • 200 back – 1:49.25

Mulgrew is currently a junior at Xaverian Brothers High School.

Harvard won the 2023 Ivy League Championship.
