Harvard Picks Up Verbal From Nation’s Capital’s Maddie Heilbrun
NEW COMMIT: Two time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Maddie Heilbrun has verbally committed to Harvard University. Heilbrun swims for Nation’s Capital Swim Club. She’s primarily an IMer and backstroker. Heilbrun was a World Championship Trials qualifier in the 400 IM. She was a 2016 Winter Nationals finalist and a Summer NCSA finalist.
Her top times are (LCM/SCY):
- 200 IM 2:20.27/ 2:02.49
- 400 IM 4:54.65/ 4:19.77
- 200 Back 2:17.51/ 2:00.41
She told Swimming World,
“I am incredibly excited and honored to commit to Harvard University’s Class of 2022! Harvard offers a strong swim and dive program with a long standing tradition of excellence as well as incredible educational opportunities. I believe that the experienced, encouraging coaches and hardworking, supportive team environment will help me to reach my swimming and academic goals. Additionally, Harvard’s balance of campus yards, college town streets, and big city culture encompasses everything I had hoped for my college experience!”
At last year’s Ivy League Championships Heilbrun would have been a 200 IM B finalist. Harvard sophomores Meagan Popp and Sonia Wang were first and third in the event last year. They’ll be seniors in Heilbrun’s first year in Cambridge. Her 200 back best also would have landed Heilbrun in the B final. She’d also be at the top of the 400 IM B final. Wang won that event last year.
Smart and fast!
Awesome “get” for Harvard!!
