Hamburg Chosen as German Candidate City for 2024 Olympics, Paralympics
FRANKFURT – Hamburg has been selected as Germany’s candidate city for the 2024 Olympics Paralympics, the German Olympic Sports Confederation announced at a press conference yesterday.
The eight-member Bureau and President Alfons Hormann decided on Hamburg over Germany’s capital, Berlin. A higher percentage of the city of Hamburg’s residents voted in favor of hosting the Games as compared to Berlin in an opinion poll published last week. The Bureau carefully considered the poll in making their decision.
The decision is expected to be officially approved March 21 at the Extraordinary General Assembly of the German Olympic Sports Confederation. If Hamburg is selected as the Olympic Games’ host city, it would mark the first time since 1972 (Munich) that Germany has hosted an Olympic Games.
