Haley Anderson Takes U.S. National Title in 5k Open Water
After finishing second behind Ashley Twichell in the 10k race two days earlier, Trojan Swim Club’s Haley Anderson finished on top in the 5k at the U.S. Open Water National Championships at Castaic Lake. She finished in 1:01:52.233 to win by a second and a half.
Italy’s Rachele Bruni finished second in 1:01:53:806 and countrywoman Arianna Bridi took third in 1:01:55.061. North Carolina Aquatic Club’s Twichell came in just behind in fourth, finishing in 1:01:55.870. and she and Anderson will be the two U.S. representatives in both the 5k and 10k races at the World Championships this summer in Budapest.
Trojan Swim Club’s Becca Mann, who was third in the 10k and is likely headed to the World Championships to swim the 25k race, took fifth in 1:01:57.363, and she was followed by Italy’s Martina De Memme (1:01:58.225), Australia’s Kareena Lee (1:02:12.318), Great Britain’s Alice Dearing (1:02.12.770), Magnolia Aquatic Club’s Joy Field (1:02:13.881) and Great Britain’s Danielle Huskisson (1:02:14.204) to round out the top ten.
