Hailey Ladd has made her verbal commitment to Florida State University. The high school senior swims for Poseidon Swimming Inc and Trinity Episcopal School.

Ladd is primarily a backstroker and distance freestyler.

Her best times are:

50/100/200 Backstroke: 27.34/57.39/2:00.61

200/500/1000/1650 Freestyle: 1:51.00/4:57.43/10:17.75/17:15.61

Florida State welcomed Neal Studd as the new Head Coach in July. Studd is looking to turn around a Seminoles program that finished ninth at last season’s ACC Championships.

At the 2016 meet, scoring in the 200 backstroke required being just under two minutes, a barrier Ladd is closing in on. Megan Brown was the Seminole’s top finisher in the event posting a 1:56.65 in her rookie season. She will be a junior when Ladd arrives on campus in Tallahassee. Ladd also would have finished 25th, one spot out of scoring, in the 1650 last year. She will join a distance group led by Summer Finke who finished sixth in 16:17.59.

At the 2016 Virginia Independent High Schools State Championships, Ladd took home bronze in the 200 freestyle with a 1:54.01. Then in the 500 freestyle she was third again with a 5:09.88. She also anchored the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

Does a “commitment” mean they they are receiving a scholarship to swim? Always wonder since I see them all the time.

I think most do receive some sort of scholarship to swim, but it’s more about celebrating their commitment to represent their new school and be an active member of the team.
