Gregorio Paltrinieri, Gabriele Detti Go 1-2 in World in 1500 Free in Milan
Gregorio Paltrinieri and Gabriele Detti moved to the top of the world rankings in the men’s 1500-meter free today at the City of Milan Trophy meet.
Paltrinieri won in 14:40.61 for the top ranking in the world, while Detti posted a 14:48.86 to stand second overall. Damien Joly (14:58.18) is the only other swimmer to break 15:00 this year.
Domenico Acerenza placed third tonight in 15:11.51 to move to 11th in the world.
Federica Pellegrini charged to fourth in the world rankings in the women’s 200-meter free with a 1:55.92. Only Katie Ledecky (1:54.43), Sarah Sjostrom (1:55.48) and Emma McKeon (1:55.53) have been faster this year.
Alice Mizzau placed second in 1:59.57 with Martina De Memme earning third in 2:00.19.
Martina Caramignoli won the women’s 800-meter free in 8:30.96. That moved her up to seventh in the world rankings. Diletta Carli took second in 8:31.89 with Martina De Memme placing third in 8:33.19.
Luca Pizzini topped the men’s 200-meter breast in 2:11.82 with Flavio Bizzari taking second in 2:15.81. Claudio Fossi placed third in 2:16.15.
Ilaria Scarcella claimed the women’s 200-meter breast in 2:28.23. Elisa Celli touched a close second in 2:28.36 with Giulia Verona earning third in 2:29.66.
Luca Mencarini picked up the men’s 200-meter back title in 1:58.56, while Emanuel Turchi finished second in 2:01.47. Jacopo Bietti claimed third in 2:01.79.
Silvia Scalia won the women’s 200-meter back in 2:12.65. Carlotta Zofkova touched second in 2:13.77 with Letizia Paruscio picking up third in 2:14.78.
Francesco Pavone earned the men’s 200-meter fly crown in 1:59.92. Matteo Pelizzari (2:01.38) and Federico Bracco (2:02.87) rounded out the top three.
Stefania Pirozzi clipped Alessia Polieri, 2:09.32 to 2:09.50, for the women’s 200-meter fly title. Teresa Strickner snared third in 2:11.74.
Filippo Magnini captured the men’s 200-meter free win in 1:49.54. Nicolangelo Di Fabio placed second in 1:49.70 with Alex Di Giorgio earning third in 1:49.72.
