NEW COMMIT: The Villanova Wildcats have earned a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2019 from Essex, Vermont’s Jake McIntyre.

Primarily a freestyler, McIntyre swims year-round with Green Mountain Aquatics under head coach Laura Matuszak. He capped off a successful long course season with a win in the 200m free and a runner-up finish in the 100m free at Eastern Zones after notching a personal best in the 800m free at Richmond Futures. He raced five events at at NCSA Spring Junior Nationals and was a six-time New England Age Group finalist. A current senior at Essex High School, McIntyre’s highest finish at New England Seniors last winter was a seventh-place showing in the 1000 free.

He told Swimming World:

“I am pleased to announce my verbal commitment to Villanova University. I am honored to have the opportunity to pursue excellence in both academics and swimming. I chose Villanova because of the excellent coaching staff, instant connection with the team, and prestigious academics. I’d like to thank my family, coaches, teammates and friends for the support they have given me throughout this process. Go Cats!”

His best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:43.16
  • 500 free – 4:40.22
  • 1000 free – 9:32.87
  • 1650 free – 15:52.46
  • 200 back – 1:51.77
  • 200 IM – 1:55.03

When he suits up for the Wildcats as a member of the class of 2023, McIntyre will add valuable depth to a freestyle training group that includes John DavidsonNoah Chernik and Steve Krecsmar. His fastest mile time would’ve placed in the top-5 and he would’ve scored in the B-final of the 200 free, 500 free and 200 back at the 2018 Big East Championships where Villanova took second overall in the team standings.
