Greek National Teamer Evangelos Makrygiannis Delivers Verbal to USC Trojans
NEW COMMIT: The University of Southern California has gained a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from Evangelos “Vaggelis” Makrygiannis of Athens, Greece.
Makrygiannis swims year-round with ANOA and has also represented the Greek Swimming Federation internationally. He most recently recorded four best times at the Greek National Open Championships this past summer after finaling in five events at that meet in 2018. Last winter, he finaled in four events and recorded five lifetime bests at the Greek Winter National Championships.
He told Swimming World:
“I am glad to announce my verbal commitment to the prestigious University of Southern California(USC)! It’s a great honor to become a member of one of the most succesfull Swimming programs in NCAA. I am looking forward to meet my future teammates and the legendary coaching staff of Trojan’s Swimming program in fall of 20’! I can’s wait to move in Los Angeles to develop my swimming at the highest possible level while I am persuing my bachelor’s! #fighton” [sic]

- 100m free – 50.60
- 200m free – 1:51.76
- 50m back – 26.05
- 100m back – 55.05
- 200m back – 1:58.71
- 200m IM – 2:09.26
In SCY, those times convert to:
- 50 free – 21.59
- 100 free – 44.17
- 200 free – 1:37.79
- 50 back – 22.19
- 100 back – 47.06
- 200 back – 1:43.15
- 200 IM – 1:52.06
Makrygiannis is continuing to improve as all of his best times we achieved in 2019 and he’ll add valuable depth to USC’s lineup. He’ll join Hugh Svendsen, Ben Dillard, Holden Raffin, Scott Sobolewski, Danny Syrkin and Ryan Abdollahi in Los Angeles as members of the Trojans’ class of 2024.
