For the second time today, DART Swimming’s Gianluca Urlando set a new boys’ 15-16 National Age Group record in the 100 fly.
After posting a time of 45.97 during prelims at the 2018 Junior National Championships – West, 16-year-old Urlando erased Michael Andrew’s previous record of 46.23 set back in 2015. He became the youngest swimmer to ever crack the 46-second barrier.
He then lowered his own mark during finals, getting his hands to the wall in 45.62. Only a high school junior, that time currently ranks fifth in the NCAA so far this season.
Gianluca Urlando, who has verbally committed to the University of Georgia for the fall of 2020, also owns the boys’ 15-16 National Age Group record in the 100m fly.
