German Sprinter Katharina Wrede Sends 2022 Verbal to Indiana Hoosiers
NEW COMMIT: Indiana University has received another verbal commitment for their growing Class of 2026 from sprinter Katharina Wrede of Salzgitter, Germany.
She will join the Hoosiers along with MacKenna Lieske, Lily Hann, Cat Watrous, Chiok Sze Yeo, Kristina Paegle, Avery Spade, Gracie Olsen and Mya DeWitt at the start of the 2022-23 season.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I‘m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Indiana University! It‘s amazing to have the possibility to further my academic and athletic career at a top university in the US with such a great team and many academic offers. GO HOOSIERS!!”
At the 2019 LEN European Junior Championships, Wrede was a semi-finalist in the 50m free. At the Berlin Open in 2020, she earned bronze in the 50m free and placed third in the 100m free at the 2019 German Swimming Championships.
Wrede does her club swimming with SSG Braunschweig and attends Humboldtschule Hannover School.
In LCM, her best times include:
- 50 free – 25.64
- 100 free – 56.95
In SCY, those times include:
- 50 free – 22.37
- 100 free – 49.86
Wrede’s best times (converted to yards) would’ve scored in the A-final of the 50 free and the C-final of the 100 free at the conference level. She’ll add her talents to a training group led by Ashley Turak, Elizabeth Broshears, Ella Ristic, Avery Williams, and Mia Ristic.
Under head coach Ray Looze, the Hoosiers finished third overall in the team standings at the 2021 Big Ten Championships.
