Georgia’s Ian Grum, Abby McCulloh Named SEC Swimmers of the Week
Ian Grum and Abby McCulloh, both of Georgia, were named the SEC Swimmers of the Week in the season’s sixth installment of weekly honors, released Tuesday.
Both turned in stellar performances in a dual meet with Florida. The Gators did enough to put three on the weekly honors list: men’s diver of the week Skip Donald, men’s freshman of the week Aleksas Savickas and women’s freshman of the week Zoe Dixon. LSU women’s diver Chiara Pellacani rounded out the honors.
Grum won three individual events as the Bulldogs upended the Gators. The senior won the 100 backstroke in 47.16 seconds, claimed the 200 back in 1:42.38 and blew away the field to claim the 400 individual medley in 3:49.26.
McCulloh set the fastest time in the nation this season when she won the 1,000 freestyle against the Gators, clocking in at 9:42.30. That gave the Gator a win by nearly five seconds. She also finished third in the 500 freestyle.
Donald won both springboard events in the meet. The senior scored 340.43 to capture the 1-meter crown and 362.85 to prevail on 3-meter.
Pellacani starred in a dual meet with Auburn. The Italian sophomore won the 3-meter event with a score of 348.38. She was the runner-up on the shorter board.
Savickas picked up a pair of breaststroke wins for the Gators against Georgia. He got to the wall first in the 100 (53.78) and 200 (1:57.08). The Lithuanian also was part o the winning 400 medley relay.
Dixon helped the Gators top Georgia by winning the 200 back in 1:56.00. She also finished second in the 400 IM and third in the 200 fly.
