Georgia Tech Gains Verbal From TAC Titans’ Abhay Tharakan 

NEW COMMIT: Georgia Tech has secured a new verbal commitment for the 2025-26 season and beyond from U.S. Open qualifier Abhay Tharakan of Apex, North Carolina.

He will join Tuncer Berk Ertürk and Tobin Uhl as a member of the Yellow Jackets’ Class of 2029.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to Georgia Tech!! I would like to thank my parents, coaches, and teammates for all their support. I’d also like to thank the Georgia Tech coaching staff and swim team for giving me this opportunity. I’m thrilled to spend my four years of university at Georgia Tech. STING EM”

A versatile swimmer, Tharakan does his club swimming with TAC Titans and finished third in the 100 back at North Carolina Seniors in February where he also placed 11th in the 100 fly and 12th in the 100 breast. He raced to 18th in the 200m back and 20th in the 100m back at Ocala Futures last summer.

His best times include:

  • 100 back – 48.54
  • 200 back – 1:46.97
  • 100 fly – 49.33
  • 200 fly – 1:49.91
  • 200 IM – 1:49.95
  • 400 IM – 4:01.53

Finishing up his junior year at Apex High School, Tharakan finished fifth in the 100 back at the 2024 North Carolina 4A State Championships. He earned bronze in that event in 2023, also taking 10th in the 200 IM during his sophomore season.

Tharakan has also received USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors.
