Georgia Tech Adds Iago Moussalem as Assistant Coach

Georgia Tech last week announced the hiring of Iago Moussalem as an assistant coach to the swimming and diving staff.

Moussalem has international experience, the Brazilian native representing his country at events like the World University Games in 2019 (where he won a medley relay bronze medal) and the Pan Pacific Championships.

“I am incredibly excited and honored to join Georgia Tech as the new assistant coach,” Moussalem said in a university statement. “The sport of swimming has played a crucial role in shaping who I am, and I truly believe it can positively impact many others to become better athletes, better students and better humans. I’m eager to contribute to the team’s success and be a part of this prestigious program. I am grateful to Courtney Hart for believing in me and giving me this opportunity.”

Moussalem competed on the collegiate level at Miami (Ohio) for three seasons before finishing his eligibility at Indiana University. He was a five-time conference champion and the Mid-American Conference’s Most Outstanding Swimmer with the RedHawks. He received his degree in sport marketing and management from Indiana in 2021.

Moussalem is familiar with the Atlanta area, coaching at Metro Atlanta Aquatic Club since June 2022. He launched a training company, Fortius Swim, which gives swimmers throughout the world access to virtual lessons, having worked with more than 200 swimmers, including two U.S. Olympic Trials qualifiers.

“As we welcome Iago Moussalem to our coaching staff, we are excited to bring on someone with such an inspirational journey and exceptional expertise,” head coach Courtney Hart said. “His dedication to the sport and commitment to excellence are evident in his impressive accomplishments and the positive influence he has had on swimmers worldwide. We look forward to seeing Iago inspire our student-athletes and elevate our program to new heights.”
