NEW COMMIT: The University of Georgia has officially opened their class of 2025 recruiting, scoring their first early verbal commitment from Zach Kohm. The Blue Bell, Penn. native will arrive in Athens at the start of the 2021-22 season.

Primarily a mid-distance/distance freestyler, Kohm does his club swimming with Plymouth Whitemarsh Aquatics and has already achieved a trio of 2020 Olympic Trials cuts. He earned two best times at Phillips 66 Nationals this past summer after recording four top-6 finishes, including a pair of victories, at Middle Atlantic LCM Seniors. At the Canadian Swimming Trials in April, he finished 14th in the 800m free and he also attended the National Select Camp in 2018.

A current junior at Germantown Academy, Kohm is a four-time Eastern Interscholastic Championship finalist and has earned NISCA All-American honors. He placed fourth in the 500 free and fifth in the 200 free as a sophomore after finishing fifth and second, respectively, in those events during his freshman season.

His best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:38.57
  • 500 free – 4:28.39
  • 1000 free – 9:19.31
  • 1650 free – 15:34.04

In LCM, his best times include:

  • 200m free – 1:51.99
  • 400m free – 3:56.28 (Olympic Trials cut)
  • 800m free – 8:10.89 (Olympic Trials cut)
  • 1500m free – 15:43.48 (Olympic Trials cut)

It took a 1:36.25, 4:21.37, and 15:32.34 to score in the 200/500/1650 free at the 2019 SEC Championships, but Kohm has made big improvements over the past few years. In two seasons, he has dropped four seconds in the 200 free, five in the 500 free, 11 in the 1000 free, and well over a minute in the mile. With nearly two years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Dawgs, Kohm is sure to continue improving and will look to carry his recent long course success heading into this upcoming short course season.
