Georgia 6A State Champion TJ Pittenger Stays Local; Lends 2021 Verbal to Bulldogs
NEW COMMIT: The University of Georgia has picked up a new in-state verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Palmetto, Ga. native TJ Pittenger.
He will join Jackson Bates, Sam Parker, Mitchell Norton, Henré Louw, Zach Kohm and Ryan Wylie as a member of the Bulldogs’ class of 2025.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at The University of Georgia! I’d like to thank my coaches, teammates, family, and friends for helping me reach this goal. GO DAWGS!”
Primarily a sprint freestyler, Pittenger does his club swimming with SwimAtlanta and owns a pair of Junior National cuts. He most recently placed fifth in the 50 free and ninth in the 100 free at the Southern Premier Invitational after finaling in the 50 free at Juniors East. Last summer, he finaled in three events at the Georgia Open before going on to earn a best time at Junior Nationals.
His best times include:
- 50 free – 20.49
- 100 free – 45.82
- 200 free – 1:40.23
Also competing for Northgate High School, Pittenger is a four-time Georgia 6A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 50 free and was the 100 free runner-up as a junior while third in the 50 free and seventh in the 200 free during his sophomore season.
Under head coach Jack Bauerle, Georgia finished third at the 2020 SEC Championships.
