NEW COMMIT: Junior National qualifier Gavin Jones of Watkinsville, Georgia, has given his verbal commitment to Villanova University and will arrive on campus in the fall of 2022.

He told Swimming World:

“It is with great excitement that I announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at Villanova University!! The amazing coaches, athletes and prestigious academics made this an easy choice. I can’t wait to call Nova Nation home!! Thank you to my parents, teammates and all of my coaches for investing in me and supporting me. Go Wildcats!! #Family”

Primarily a freestyler and backstroker, Jones trains year-round with Athens Bulldog Swim Club and most recently placed eighth in the 200m back at Georgia LCM Seniors after earning seven lifetime bests at Greensboro Sectionals. Back in the winter, he finaled in three events at Cary Sectionals and raced to 16th in the 100 back at Georgia SCY Seniors.

His best times include:

  • 100 back – 51.84
  • 200 back – 1:52.81
  • 50 free – 22.02
  • 100 free – 47.59
  • 200 free – 1:40.94

Also competing for North Oconee High School, Jones was the runner-up in the 200 free as a sophomore before going on to win that event as a junior at the Georgia 4/5A State Championships.

Jones will add valuable depth both individually and on relays when he suits up for the Wildcats as a member of the Class of 2026. He would’ve scored in the A-final of the 200 free as well as the B-final of the 100/200 back at the 2021 Big East Championships where Villanova finished second overall in the team standings.
