NEW COMMIT: Atlanta, Ga. native Idris Muhammad has announced his verbal commitment to continue his academic and swimming career at Purdue University beginning in the fall of 2021.

He will join Brady Samuels and Lance Lesage as a member of the Boilermakers’ class of 2025.

He told Swimming World:

“I chose Purdue because of the amazing staff and athletes that were supportive every step of the process. Boiler Up!”

A talented backstroker and sprint freestyler, Muhammad swims year-round with Dynamo Swim Club and owns three Junior National cuts. He most recently earned seven best times at the Southern Premier Invitational where his highest finish was a fourth-place showing in the 100 back after racing two events at Juniors East in December.

Last summer, he raced to fifth in the 50m back at Georgia LCM Seniors. He also earned 100% best times at Greensboro Futures en route to taking eighth in the 50m free and 13th in the 100m back.

His best times include:

  • 50 back – 23.56
  • 100 back – 49.67
  • 200 back – 1:49.54
  • 50 free – 20.87
  • 100 free – 46.49
  • 200 free – 1:41.56

A rising senior at Druid Hills High School, Muhammad is a four-time Georgia 1-5A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 100 back and grabbed bronze in the 50 free during his junior season while taking sixth in the 100 free as a sophomore. He also placed eighth in the 100 back during his rookie campaign.

Under head coach Dan Ross, Purdue finished seventh in the team standings at the 2020 Big Ten Championships and have a young but talented team in place for next season.
