Georgetown Head Coach Jack Leavitt Leaving Program after Nine Years
Georgetown University head swimming and diving coach Jack Leavitt announced last week that he is leaving the program after nine years in charge.
Leavitt is taking over as the director of athletics at Campbell Hall School in Studio City, California.
Leavitt won four Big East Championships at the helm of the Hoyas, including just this month.
“Leaving Georgetown is one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make,” Leavitt said in a press release. “This program, this university, and—most importantly—the people here have meant the world to me and my family. The past nine years have been an incredible journey of growth, success, and transformation, but through it all, the one constant has been the relationships. Coaching these student-athletes has been a privilege, and the bonds we’ve built extend far beyond competition. I am so grateful for the opportunity to have led this program, and I leave knowing it is in great hands and primed for continued success.
“To my colleagues, especially Pat (McArdle) and Lee (Reed), I couldn’t have asked for better mentors and friends. Your guidance, patience, and unwavering support have meant everything. And to the administrators, fellow coaches, and staff who have been there for our team every step of the way—I truly appreciate all of you. Georgetown will always be a part of me and my family. Hoya Saxa, forever.”
Leavitt led the men’s team to the Big East title four times, from 2022-25. His leading pupils included Drew Carbone, the four-time Big East Championships Most Outstanding Male Swimmer and a qualifier for Olympic Trials in 2021. In 2024, Georgetown provided the Big East Championships Co-Most Outstanding Male Swimmer (Jack Januario) and Co-Most Outstanding Male Diver (Nico Santiago), plus three Most Outstanding Female Divers from 2017-20.
Leavitt and his staff were named the Big East Men’s Coaching Staff of the Year three times, in 2019, 2024 and 2025.
“Jack Leavitt redefined Georgetown’s swimming & diving programs in his nine years on the Hilltop,” athletic director Lee Reed said. “His passion and dedication to the program built a championship culture that I am confident will continue upon his departure because of the groundwork he laid. While losing a coach of his caliber is difficult, what we will truly miss is the personality he brought to our department. Jack is a talented coach, a mentor and a role model for so many. Personally, I know many in our department will miss him as both a colleague and a friend. We wish him and his family the very best in their new chapter, and remind them that they will always have a home at Georgetown.”
