Georgetown Gets Verbals from California’s Jack Brearton, North Carolina’s Stephen Kim

NEW COMMITS: Georgetown University has received a pair of verbal commitments for the fall of 2021 from Manhatten Beach, Calif. native Jack Brearton and Stephen Kim of Charlotte, N.C.

Both talented swimmers will join Jacksonville, Fla. native Ansen Meyer in Washington, D.C. as a member of the Hoyas’ class of 2025.

At the 2020 Big East Championships, Georgetown finished second overall in the team standings under head coach Jack Leavitt.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“Excited to announce my commitment to swim and study at Georgetown University. I want to thank my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for all of their support. Hoya Saxa!”

A strong IMer and freestyler, Brearton trains year-round with Swim Torrance and had three top-20 finishes with five best times at Carlsbad Speedo Sectionals in March. Last summer, he had a strong showing at Santa Clarita Sectionals before going on to raced three events at Mount Hood Futures.

His best times include:

  • 200 IM – 1:52.33
  • 400 IM – 3:59.54
  • 200 free – 1:43.08
  • 500 free – 4:34.47

Also competing for Loyola High School, Brearton raced the 200 IM and 500 free at the CIF Southern DI Section Championships during his sophomore campaign.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“So overjoyed to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academics and swimming career at Georgetown University. Thank you so much to my family, friends, teammates and coaches who have helped me through this whole process. HOYA SAXA!!!”

Primarily a breaststroker and sprint freestyler, Kim does his club swimming with SwimMAC Carolina and most recently placed third in the 100 breast and ninth in the 200 breast at the Southern Premier Invitational. He earned two best times at Juniors East in December and collected gold in the 200m breast at North Carolina LCM Seniors in July 2019.

His best times include:

  • 50 breast – 26.23
  • 100 breast – 56.20
  • 200 breast – 2:01.68
  • 50 free – 21.36
  • 100 free – 47.29

A current senior at Charlotte Latin School, Kim is a five-time North Carolina State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American was the runner-up in the 100 breast and placed fourth in the 100 free as a junior while taking first in the former event during his sophomore season. He also won both the 100 breast and 200 IM at the 3A State meet in 2018.
