Genevieve Pfeifer, Minki Kang Open Jenks, OK Sectionals With Wins
JENKS, Oklahoma, March 6. THE first night of racing at the Speedo Champions Series – Central Section Region VIII kicked off this evening with finals in the men’s and women’s 1000 freestyle.
Three swimmers broke the 10-minute barrier in the women’s event, led by 14-year-old Genevieve Pfeifer of Flyers Aquatic Swim Team in 9:52.18. Rockwood Swim Club’s Jordan Stout dropped more than 20 seconds from her seed time to take second in 9:55.45, while Columbia Swim Club’s Elizabeth Walker rounded out the top three in 9:55.87.
Arkansas Dolphins’ Minki Kang dominated the men’s 1000 free with a 9:10.04, seven seconds under his seed time and 13 ahead of second place finisher Ryan Baker of the Rec Plex Sharks (9:23.47). Nicholas Alexander of Flyers Aquatic Swim Team rounded out the top three finishers in 9:26.69.
Rockwood Swim Club leads the combined team standings with 50 points, followed by Flyers Aquatic Swim Team (40) and Razorback Aquatic Club (33).
