Genevieve Jorgenson Pulls Distance Triple as Nebraska Handles Kansas

Genevieve Jorgenson pulled off a distance triple over 1,900 yards of racing as Nebraska took care of Kansas, 187-113, in a nonconference border battle Friday night in Lincoln.

Jorgenson started the meet by winning the 1,000 freestyle in 10:07.89, besting the field by more than 18 seconds. She roared to victory in the 500 free in 4:57.16. And she had enough left to take the 400 individual medley in 4:27.40.

Jorgenson helped the Cornhuskers mount five 1-2 finishes in six events in the front half of the meet. Giulia Marchi followed by winning the 200 free in 1:51.52, the first of a top three sweep with teammates Anna Vlachou and Alexa Kucera.

Marchi was second and Kucera was third in the 100 free, won by Emily Haimes in 51.76. She had earlier won the 50 free in 23.97 ahead of teammate Beatrix Tanko. Tanko would go on to win the 100 butterfly.

Maia Hall swept the breaststroke events, winning the 100 in 1:04.29 (just .23 up on teammate Jojo Randby) and the 200 in 2:18.63. Sarah Barton won the 200 fly.

Haimes, Kucera, Marchi and Tanko finished the day by going 3:26.87 to win the 400 free relay by just shy of three seconds.

On the boards, Nebraska’s Antonina Harned scored 331.50 to edge out Shiyun Lai of Kansas on 3-meter. Lai turned it around on 1-meter with the win after scoring 293.18 points.

Nebraska didn’t have things all their way. The Jayhawks opened by winning the 200 medley relay, Lesli Sisung, Molly Robinson, Lydia Lafferty and Caroline Blake stopping the clock in 1:44.12.

Kansas won both backstroke events. Sisung went 56.49 in the 100, with teammate Bradie Ward second. Ward won the 200 back in 2:03.52 with Sisung second. Aidan Howze finished second in the 200 breast and third in the 400 IM and 100 breast.
