Gators Keep Another In State, Earn 2022 Verbal from Open Water Standout Mallory Schleicher
NEW COMMIT: The University of Florida has kept another one in the Sunshine State for their growing Class of 2026 after receiving a verbal commitment from Mallory Schleicher of Cooper City.
She will join fellow in-state standouts Bella Lojewski and Anna Moore in Gainesville at the start of the 2022-23 season.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim for the University of Florida! Thank you to all my coaches, family, and friends for supporting me!”
A talented distance swimmer, Schleicher swims year-round with South Florida Aquatic Club and is a Junior National qualifier. She most recently earned silver in both the 400m IM and 1500m free as well as bronze in the 400m free at Plantation Sectionals in March.
Last summer, she recorded five top-20 finishes at Gainesville Sectionals before going on to place fifth in the 400m IM and ninth in the 400m free at Greensboro Futures.
In SCY, her best times include:
- 1650 free – 17:11.62
- 1000 free – 10:23.53
- 500 free – 4:55.86
- 200 free – 1:52.55
- 400 IM – 4:26.04
In LCM, her best times include:
- 400m IM – 4:53.96
- 200m IM – 2:22.53
- 1500m free – 17:18.67
- 800m free – 9:08.38
- 400m free – 4:21.95
- 200m free – 2:05.41
At the 2019 USA Swimming Open Water Junior National Championships, Schleicher finished seventh overall in the 5km race.
Also competing for Cooper City High School, Schleicher has competed at the Florida 4A State Championships the last two years. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed ninth in the 500 free as a sophomore while taking 10th in that event during her freshman season.
