Gary Hall Jr. Discusses Variety of Topics – Including Doping – In Latest Athletes Only Podcast

Gary Hall Jr. is regarded as one of the greatest sprinters the sport has seen, that distinction solidifed by his back-to-back Olympic crowns in the 50-meter freestyle at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. During his illustrious career, Hall collected 10 Olympic medals, his contributions heavily appreciated in relay action.

In the latest edition of the Athletes Only Podcast, packaged by former Cal swimmer Kyle Millis, Hall Jr. covers a number of topics with the host. Included in the 22-minute interview are Hall’s rivalries with Russian sprint star Alex Popov and Australia. Hall also takes time to discuss doping in the sport and provides feedback on the current state of sprinting.

Beyond his elite skills as a sprinter, Hall always brought charisma to the blocks. He knew how to hype the sport and engage the fans, his personality shining through. More, he was a testament of perseverence, as Hall was diagnosed with Type II diabetes during his career and initially told he would have to stop swimming. Instead, he forged ahead and proved athletes can remain top-tier performers despite medical obstacles.

Here is the full interview conducted by Millis with legendary sprinter Gary Hall Jr.
