Gamecocks Get 2020 Verbal from Four-Time South Carolina 4A State Champion Riley Parker
NEW COMMIT: Greenville, S.C. freestyler/backstroker Riley Parker has announced her in-state verbal commitment to the University of South Carolina beginning and will join the class of 2024.
Parker does her club swimming with Team Greenville and owns the Winter Juniors cut in the 100 free and 200 free. She competed in four events at Juniors East in December and earned bronze in the 500 free at Greensboro Speedo Sectionals last March. She raced the 100m/200m free combo at Junior Nationals in August after winning three events at the South Carolina LCM Championships.
Also competing for Eastside High School, Parker is a six-time South Carolina 4A State Championship finalist. She won the 100 free and 200 free as a junior after placing first in the 200 free and 100 back during her sophomore season. She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts.
She told Swimming World:
“Super excited to announce my commitment to swim and study at the University of South Carolina! I felt at home as soon as I set foot on campus! A huge thank you to my family, teammates, and coaches for their generosity and support! #spursup”
Her best times include:
- 100 free – 51.97
- 200 free – 1:48.85
- 500 free – 4:55.14
- 100 back – 56.86
- 200 back – 2:02.52
Although she’s not quite in scoring range at the SEC Championships just yet, Parker has continuously made improvements each season with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Gamecocks. She will also join fellow in-state swimmer Gabi Reed next fall in Columbia.
