G Ryan Takes Down Vien Nguyen to Win 1500 Free at Atlanta Pro Series

Vien Nguyen had a comfortable lead with 100 meters to go, but G Ryan tracked her down and pulled ahead with a blistering final two laps to win the women’s 1500 free in the first race of the arena Pro Swim Series meet in Atlanta.

Ryan, representing Club Wolverine finished in 16:25.64, moving her into the top-15 in the world as the fastest American. Nguyen was second in 16:28.18, and Ryan’s Club Wolverine training partner Rose Bi came in third at 16:31.52.

A third Club Wolverine swimmer, Sierra Schmidt, finished fourth in 16:36.22, and Etiobicoke’s Olivia Anderson grabbed fifth  in 16:46.12.

York YMCA’s Leah Braswell won the second of the two timed finals heats in 16:48.34, good enough for sixth overall, and the remainder of the top eight included Auburn’s Ashley Neidigh and St. Petersburg’s Peyton Palsha.
