Futures Qualifier Matthew Larsen Commits to Washington University in St. Louis
NEW COMMIT: New Orleans, La. native Matthew Larsen has announced his verbal commitment to Washington University in St. Louis and will arrive on campus at the start of the 2020-21 season.
He told Swimming World:
“I am excited to continue my academic and swimming career at Washington University in St. Louis! I chose WashU for its unparalleled academics and sense of community, and I look forward to making a positive contribution to the swim team. I am grateful to my family, friends, and swim coaches for all of their support during this process.”
Larsen swims year-round with Nu Wave Swim Club and most recently earned four best times at College Station Sectionals after recording five top-15 finishes at Louisiana Seniors. Last summer, he had a strong showing at the Louisiana 13&O State Championships where his highest finish was a sixth-place showing in both the 200m breast and 400m IM.
His best times include:
- 200 IM – 1:56.29
- 400 IM – 4:04.44
- 200 breast – 2:08.55
- 200 fly – 1:54.46
A current senior at Mandeville High School, Larsen is a five-time Louisiana DI State Championship finalist. He was the 200 IM runner-up and took fourth in the 100 breast as a senior while placing sixth and seventh, respectively, in those events during his junior season.
His head coach, Ross Hedrick, said:
“Matthew has always been a focused, hard-working student-athlete. His efforts were shown in both his academic success and his continued improvement in the pool. His relentless pursuit of improvement even spilled over into his correction of teammates, especially their grammar and word choices.”
