Futures Qualifier Dayan Rodriguez Commits to The University of Tennessee Southern

NEW COMMIT: Futures qualifier Dayan Rodriguez has announced his commitment to swim at The University of Tennessee Southern beginning in the fall of 2022.

He will join Grady Wheeler, Gage Quigley, and Thomas Mussman in the class of 2026.

The University of Tennessee Southern competes in the NAIA in the Mid South Conference. In February, the Firehawks finished fourth at its conference championships.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at The University of Tennessee Southern. When I visited the campus and met Coach Peterson I felt he can help me swim at a higher level. The campus has a feel-good atmosphere and I am certain that I am going to excel as a student and as an athlete. GO FIREHAWKS!!”

Rodriguez does his club swimming with Nitro Swimming in Cedar Park, Texas. The USA Swimming Gold Medal team has produced elite swimmers such as University of Texas standouts Will Licon and Tate Jackson.

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 57.99
  • 200 breast – 2:08.69
  • 200 IM – 1:59.60
  • 100 free – 50.23

A senior at Memorial High School in McAllen, Texas, Rodriguez is the school record holder in the 100 breast and 200 IM. This past February, he represented his school at the UIL 5A State Championship, where he finished ninth in the 100 breast (58.02) and 19th in the 200 IM (1:59.79).

With The University of Tennessee Southern team only two years old, Rodriguez will have an instant impact as his best times in the 100 and 200 breast and 200 IM are significantly faster than the Firehawk school records.

Additionally, his best times in all three events would have scored in the A-final at the 2022 Mid South Conference Championships.
