Futures Bronze Medallist Mason Edmund Sends 2022 Verbal to Ohio State Buckeyes
NEW COMMIT: The Ohio State University has received their first verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season from Junior National qualifier Mason Edmund of Southlake, Texas.
He told Swimming World:
“Am I a B1G dog yet? I’ve verbally committed to swim for THE Ohio State University – all thanks to my parents, friends and coaches throughout my time in OH, AZ, FL, and TX. Pumped to rep the scarlet and gray until 2026 and beyond! O-H!”
A talented distance freestyler, Edmund currently does his club swimming with North Texas Nadadores and earned three best times at the LAC Fall Classic earlier this month. He finished fourth in the 800m free at College Station Sectionals in March after racing four events at Juniors West last December.
In Summer 2019, he recorded 100% best times at Austin Sectionals before going on to grab bronze in the 800m free at Des Moines Futures.
His best times include:
- 200 free – 1:42.61
- 500 free – 4:29.43
- 1000 free – 9:20.78
- 1650 free – 15:34.47
- 400 IM – 4:02.25
Currently a junior at Southlake High School, Edmund finished 10th in the 500 free as a sophomore at the Texas 6A State Championships. As a freshman at Berkeley Prep in Florida, he raced to 13th place in that event at the Florida 1A State Championships.
Edmund will add valuable distance freestyle depth to the Buckeyes’ lineup when he arrives in Columbus as a member of the Class of 2026. His best time in both the 1000 and 1650 would’ve ranked second on their lineup last season, while he would’ve been their fifth-fastest 500 freestyler.
Under head coach Bill Dorenkott, Ohio State finished second at the 2020 Big Ten Championships behind Michigan.
