FSU Seminoles Earn Class of 2025 In-State Verbal from Sprinter Rian Covington
NEW COMMIT: Winter Juniors qualifier Rian Covington of Jacksonville, Fla. has announced his in-state commitment to Florida State University beginning in the fall of 2021.
Primarily a sprint freestyler and butterflyer, Covington swims year-round with Bolles School Sharks and recently earned a pair of best times at Juniors East in December. This past summer, he finished 12th in the 50m fly at Gainesville Sectionals before going on to place 16th in the 50m free at Greensboro Futures.
He told Swimming World:
“It is with much gratitude and humbleness that I am pleased to announce my verbal commitment to Florida State University to pursue my academic and swimming goals. All thanks to God, my family, coaches, teammates and friends for the continual support and trust in me.”
His best times include:
- 50 free – 20.72
- 100 free – 47.59
- 100 fly – 50.91
A current junior at Atlantic Coast High School, Covington is a four-time Florida 4A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American raced to fourth in the 50 free and 12th in the 100 fly as a junior after taking 10th and 16th, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.
