Doug Frost, coach of teen swim sensation Ian Thorpe, was named Australian “Coach of the Year” to the surprise of almost nobody.
Frost has coached Thorpe, known as “The Thorpedo” in Australia, since he was a young boy. In 1999, Thorpe set world records in the 200 (1:46.00) and 400m freestyle (3:41.83). He also set a short course world mark in the 200 free at 1:43.28.
