Frisco Girls, Austin Vandegrift Boys Win Texas 5A State High School Championships

The Frisco girls and Austin Vandegrift boys picked up the Texas 5A State High School Championships today.
Girls
Frisco won the girls title with 187 points, while Houston Stratford took second with 156.5 points. College Station A&M (137), Magnolia (131) and San Antonio Alamo Heights (123) rounded out the top five.
Bryan’s Julia Cook hit the wall in 22.96 to win the 50-yard free after setting the 5A state record with a 22.86 in prelims.
Cook twice cleared another 5A state record in the 100-yard free. She posted a 49.63 in prelims before winning the finale in 49.27.
Frisco Heritage’s Rachel Ramey downed the 100-yard breast 5A state record twice. First, she hit the wall in 1:01.90 in prelims before winning the final in 1:01.78.
Prosper’s Gabrielle Kopenski won the 200-yard free in 1:47.13. Kopenski doubled up with a 4:44.56 in the 500-yard free.
Denison’s Lindsay Looney claimed the 200-yard IM in 2:02.68.
Houston Stratford’s Emma Stephenson earned the 100-yard fly crown in 55.13.
Frisco Reedy’s Abby Koczo won the 100-yard back in 55.78.
Houston Stratford’s Morgan Reyna, Brittany Baerg, Emma Stephenson and Kaitlyn White won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:48.13.
College Station A&M’s Jessica Peng, Yanichka Ariunbold, Danielle Scott and Maria de Figueredo won the 200-yard free relay in 1:37.58.
Frisco’s Lindsey Ryalls, Emily Sandwisch, Rylee Lin and Mallori Allen topped the 400-yard free relay with a 3:30.48 to secure the team title.
San Antonio Alamo Heights’ Sine Scribbick won the one-meter diving title with 479.75 points.

Boys
Austin Vandegrift topped the 5A state championships with 189 points, while Frisco took second with 172 points. Houston Stratford (150), Grapevine (149) and Humble Kingwood Park (140) comprised the rest of the top five.
Brenham’s Hudson Smith picked up the 200-yard IM title in 1:49.40. Smith doubled up with a 5A state record in the 100-yard breast, clocking a 55.97 in finals. That swim beat the 56.63 set by Ford Story back in 2012.
Boerne Champion’s Owen Upchurch lowered the 5A state record in the 100-yard free twice. First he clocked a 44.98 in prelims before winning the finale in 44.96.
Frisco Wakeland’s Sam Kline topped the 200-yard free in 1:38.12. Kline won his second title with a 4:28.67 in the 500-yard free.
Houston Stratford’s Clayton Bobo won the 50-yard free in 20.71.
Dripping Springs’ Micah Slaton cruised to victory in the 100-yard fly with a 48.87.
College Station A&M’s Peter Simmons won the 100-yard back in 49.80.
Houston Stratford’s Jim Nantz, Cory Stephenson, Peyton Moak and Clayton Bobo topped the 200-yard medley relay in 1:35.04.
Austin Vandegrift’s Zachary Bezella, Andrew Pickard, Daniel Sarman and John Winkler claimed the 200-yard free relay in 1:25.73.
Boerne Champion’s Jakob Garcia, Connor Fitzgerald, Jacob Poston and Owen Upchurch captured the 400-yard free relay in 3:11.98.
