Freestyler Nick Caruso of Gator Swim Club Commits to Kentucky Wildcats
NEW COMMIT: The University of Kentucky has added a new commitment for the fall of 2021 from Futures qualifier Nick Caruso of Gainesville, Fla.
He will join Colby Maupin, Jack Hamilton, Michael Belair, Mac Russell, and Jackson Mussler in Lexington as a member of the Wildcats’ class of 2025.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“Super stoked to announce my commitment to continue to swim and study at the University of Kentucky. I’d like to thank my friends, family, coaches, and everyone who has supported me throughout this process. Go cats!”
A talented freestyler, Caruso trains year-round with Gator Swim Club and last competed at the Florida Virtual Championships where he earned four best times. Last December, he recorded four top-10 finishes at the Gator Invitational and won the 400m free at Southern Zone Age Groups in Summer 2019.
His best times include:
- 100 free – 47.83
- 200 free – 1:39.63
- 500 free – 4:30.60
- 1000 free – 9:43.77
- 1650 free – 15:55.27
- 100 fly – 53.29
Also competing for F.W. Buchholz High School, Caruso is a three-time individual Florida 4A State Championship finalist. He placed third in the 500 free and ninth in the 200 free as a senior while taking 15th in the former event during his junior season.
The Wildcats finished seventh overall in the team standings at the 2020 SEC Championships under head coach Lars Jorgensen. They also qualified five swimmers for the 2020 NCAA Championships – their most in a decade.
