Fort Collins Breaststroker Mahala Erlandson Gives Boilermakers First Class of 2025 Verbal
NEW COMMIT: Purdue University has officially entered the Class of 2025 recruiting game after receiving a verbal commitment from breaststroker and IMer Mahala Erlandson of Fort Collins, Colo.
Erlandson swims year-round with Fort Collins Area Swim Team and owns the Summer Juniors standard in both breaststroke events. She competed in the 100m/200m breast combo this past summer at Junior Nationals after registering four best times at Mount Hood Sectionals. Last winter, she competed in three events at Juniors West before going on to finish sixth in the 200 breast at Federal Way Sectionals.
A current junior at Fossil Ridge High School, Erlandson is a four-time Colorado 5A State Championship finalist. She placed seventh in the 200 IM and eighth in the 100 breast as a sophomore while racing to eighth and 10th, respectively, in those events during her freshman season.
Her best times include:
- 100 breast – 1:03.93
- 200 breast – 2:15.12
- 200 IM – 2:04.88
- 400 IM – 4:25.51
When she suits up for the Boilermakers at the start of the 2021-22 season, Erlandson will add her talents to a breaststroke training group that’ll include Sylvia Kobylak and Riley Kishman. She would’ve placed in the C-final of the 200 breast at the 2019 Big Ten Championships, but it took a 1:01.99 to score in the 100 breast. She has dropped five seconds in the 100 breast and 12 seconds in the 200 breast over the past two seasons – a good sign for Purdue.

Congratulations Erlandsons!
