Former California High School Sprint Champ Dies in Hiking Accident

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 3. FORMER Southern California high school sprint champion, James Jenkins, was found dead last Thursday afternoon at the bottom of a waterfall in the June Lake-Mammoth Lakes area, according to a story by Mark Emmons in the San Jose Mercury News.
Jenkins' death appears to be accidental, according to a Mono County Sheriffs Department report. He was 19.
Jenkins, a 6' 7" graduate of La Crescenta High School, was a CIF Southern Section champion in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles. He was also an outstanding basketball player and a member of the San Jose State University basketball team, where he was slated to start next season.
