Fly/IMer Maria Mrosko and Sprinter Annie Pfeufer Hand Verbals to Denison University

NEW COMMITS: Denison University has scored another set of verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season from Uniontown, Pa. native Maria Mrosko and Annie Pfeufer of Decatur, Ga.

Both talented swimmers will join Zoe Barclay and Maja Palmroos as a member of the Big Red’s class of 2025.

Under head coach Gregg Parini, the Big Red have clinched six NCAA Division III National Championship titles and 16 national runner-up finishes.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at Denison University! I would like to thank my family, friends and coaches for helping along this journey. I am beyond excited to be a part of such an amazing team!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 57.42
  • 200 fly – 2:06.56
  • 200 IM – 2:07.37
  • 400 IM – 4:29.37

Mrosko does her club swimming with Uniontown Area YMCA and finished sixth in the 200m fly and seventh in the 400m IM at the TPIT Junior Olympics last summer. Also competing for Laurel Highlands High School, Mrosko is a six-time WPIAL AA Championship finalist. She won the 100 fly and was the runner-up in the 200 IM as a junior while taking fourth and third, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season. She also finished seventh in the 200 IM at the Pennsylvania AA State Meet in 2019.

ANNIE PFEUFER

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at Denison University!! I can’t wait to become part of such a wonderful team! Go Big Red!!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 24.46
  • 100 free – 51.57
  • 200 free – 1:51.76
  • 500 free – 5:04.93

Pfeufer swims year-round with Dynamo Swim Club and most recently finished 14th in the 100 free at the Southern Premier Invitational while earning silver in that event at Georgia Seniors. Last summer, she finaled in the 100m free at Greensboro Futures. A current senior at Decatur High School, Pfeufer raced to third in the 100 free and fourth in the 200 free at the Georgia 1-5A State Championships as a junior. She grabbed bronze and silver, respectively, in those events as a sophomore.
