Florida State Sweeps ACC Awards
GREENSBORO, North Carolina, November 21. FLORIDA State's Jarryd Botha and Lauren Brick have been selected Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week in their respective divisions. The duo helped their teams capture the Nike Cup Invitational titles last week, and became the second set of Seminoles to sweep the league's weekly awards this season.
In the men's competition, Botha recorded several NCAA "B" cut times in both the individual and team events. He turned in personal-best times of 48.69 and 1:45.10, respectively, to win both the 100 and 200 backstroke events and was runner-up in the 50 freestyle (20.16). His times in both the 100 and 200 back are tops in the league this year. The junior from Worcester, South Africa, was also part of three relay teams, including the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:20.81) and 400 medley relay (3:16.96) squads that posted NCAA "B" marks.
A senior from Culpeper, Va., Brick collected a pair of individual victories for the first-place Seminole women last week. She took gold in the 100 breaststroke as she recorded an NCAA "A" cut time of 1:01.52. She later placed second in the 200 breaststroke with an NCAA "B" cut time of 2:16.12. Brick was also part of two winning relay squads that turned in NCAA "B" cut marks in the 200 medley relay (1:41.90) and 400 medley relay (3:41.30), as well as the second-place 200 freestyle relay unit.
