Florida State Lands Big 2021 Verbal from World Juniors Finalist Arijus Pavlidi of Lithuania
NEW COMMIT: Florida State University has scored a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2021 from Arijus Pavlidi of Vilnius, Lithuania. He announced his decision via CollegeSwimming.
He will join in-state native Rian Covington in Tallahassee as a member of the Seminoles’ class of 2025.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I’m super excited to announce my verbal commitment to Florida State University! I believe that FSU will be the perfect fit for me to continue my academic and athletic journey. I can’t wait to be part of something greater and see what heights I can reach with FSU! GO NOLES!”
Pavlidi last competed at the Lithuanian Open Championships in December where he recorded five best times and finaled in four events. He raced three events at the LEN European Short Course Championships last winter and won two events at the Lithuanian Junior Championships in 2019.
Last summer, he placed fourth in the 200m back at LEN European Junior Championships where he also advanced to the semifinals of the 100m back. He then went on to finish sixth in the 200m back and 12th in the 100m back at the FINA World Junior Championships in Budapest.
In LCM, his best times include:
- 50m back – 26.29
- 100m back – 55.32
- 200m back – 1:59.63
In SCY, those times convert to:
- 50 back – 22.39
- 100 back – 47.29
- 200 back – 1:43.95
Even with a year still to go before suiting up for the Noles, Pavlidi will add valuable backstroke depth to FSU’s lineup. His best times (converted to yards) would’ve ranked second in the 100 back and third in the 200 back on their roster last season and would’ve scored in the B-final of both events at the 2020 ACC Championships.
