Florida Gators Land 2020 In-State Verbal from Distance Standout Brendan Peacock
NEW COMMIT: Cape Coral, Fla. native and current high school junior Brendan Peacock has elected to stay in-state for college, sending his verbal commitment to the University of Florida for the 2020-21 season and beyond.
A talented freestyler who gets faster as the distance gets longer, Peacock does his club swimming with Swim Florida and owns a pair of U.S. Open cuts. He most recently competed at the Florida Spring Championships where he was the runner-up in the mile after placing 22nd in that event at Juniors East. He won the 800m free at Gainesville Speedo Sectionals last summer before going on to achieve 100% lifetime bests at Cary Futures.
Also competing for Evangelical Christian School, Peacock is a five-time Florida 1A State Championship finalist. He took second in the 500 free and ninth in the 200 free as a junior after finishing fourth and seventh, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.
He told Swimming World:
“UF was the best choice for me! I felt like I connected with the team and the coaches very well, and I am excited to continue my swimming career there! Go gators!”
His best times include:
- 200 free – 1:41.05
- 500 free – 4:28.16
- 1650 free – 15:19.26
Peacock will add valuable distance depth when he arrives in Gainesville as a member of the class of 2024. Even with well over a year left before suiting up for the Gators, his best mile time would’ve scored in the top-20 at the 2019 SEC Championships where Florida earned their seventh-straight conference title.
